Do you know what sin is?

The Bible tells us that sin is simply lawlessness. “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.” (1 John 3:4). Everyone living today is subject to the law of Christ. Christ’s law for us today is His New Testament. “And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.” (Hebrews 9:15). The Old Covenant (the Law of Moses) was nailed to His cross, “Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14). When we violate Christ’s law, we are guilty of sin.

Sin separates Man from GodDo you know what the consequences of sin are?  The first sin ever committed was in the Garden of Eden. God told Adam that he could eat from any tree, “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17). If he ate of that tree, he would die. The word death simply means a separation. When Adam sinned, he was separated from God.

The New Testament tells us that the wages of sin is death, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23).  When we sin, our sins cause us to be separated from God.  But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2).

We have become too comfortable with sin in our world. Las Vegas proudly wears the name “Sin City.” Friends, sin will cause you to be eternally separated from God. That is no laughing matter. Thanks be to God for the gift of His son.

Because of His sacrifice,
We no longer need to bear the guilt of our sins
