Have you heard some claim Jesus was an angel?

Hebrews 1:5-14 shows Jesus was superior to all the angels and includes this statement: “Let all the angels of God worship Him [Christ]”. It is interesting how Jesus could be an angel but all the angels are to worship Him.

In Colossians 2:18 we are warned against worshipping angels, “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels.” An angel appeared to the apostle John. Read what happened: “Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, ‘See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” (Revelation 22:8-9). These passages clearly show that it is wrong to worship angels and for them accept worship. Worship is reserved for God. What about Jesus being an angel and accepting worship?

Jesus is Not an AngelJesus, being God and not an angel, accepted worship even before the resurrection. “And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, 'Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.'” (Matthew 8:2). Jesus did not forbid the worship. “While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.’” (Matthew 9:18). Again, Jesus did not forbid the worship. “Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘Truly You are the Son of God.’” (Matthews 14:33). Jesus accepted this worship too which included praise that He is the Son of God, not an angel.

Since it is sinful to worship angels and for angels to accept the worship; since Jesus accepted worship and committed no sin; then it is clearly false to believe that Jesus was an angel.

He is the Son of God.
